
If heritage and descent is anything to go by, Jali Madi Kanuteh has verily lived and cherished the ways of his ancestors despite widespread existence of various influences, in music and art generally. Son of the renowned griot and widely traveled Balafon player of The Gambia National Troupe, the late Alhaji Banna Kanuteh, who was also an oral historian and had equally written a book with Bamba Suso about the legendary Malian king - Sundiata Keita. His mother, Sainabou Tunkara was also a member of The Gambia National troupe. A renowned for her amazing dance steps and choreography. As such, we could say that Jali Madi's artistic and musical inclination is somewhat and natural. As a result in 1999, he formed a group called Askan G. The group made several singles including the hit "Mam Diarra". He equally did songs with his brother Saihou Kanuteh (Sherriffo) who is equally very renowned for his traditional style of music. His first single after going solo "my love", has made remarkable waves in The Gambia. His Rap/Afromanding style is already gaining momentum in The Gambia. As such, many artist called him up for combinations. Amongst these is the song entitled ”Cheley Gambia" featuring Mc Mbye and Mo Hawk which was recorded at The Block Entertainment Studio by Mo hawk Rap Khalifa, and now release the most recent single from his debut album Kaira. Jalimadi is currently signed with The Block Entertainment Studio in Pipeline The Gambia.
