The queen of dancehall, Lady Saw, for the 10th time in her career, is excited about today's release of her 14-track studio album, Alter Ego, under her label, Diva Records.
Lady Saw, who teamed up with VP records to distribute the album, is in New York promoting it and is also celebrating 25 years in the business.

"Being humble, that's what keeps me right here. I'm still in this business for over 25 years, and people get confuse sometimes and ask questions like why do people love her like that?" Lady Saw said.
"I love my fans; they are the ones that have kept me grounded. Without their strong support, maybe I would have given up the music because a lot of times people try to take away my joy or try to spread rumors and say she's this or she's that. The real people know that I have a clean heart."
The album puts her creativity on full display and showcases both the racy and more-subdued sides of Marion Hall.
The album features collaborations with Beres Hammond, Estelle, Ali Campbell of UB40, and Flo-Rida. Judging by her latest singles, Hoping and Me & Mi X, Lady Saw is adding some extra sizzle to the holiday season and is poised to ignite the charts.
"The fans can expect gospel, reggae, R&B, jazz, and blues, little pop with some rap up in there; it's a lot of things. Alter Ego is a beautiful album. It is subtle, sweet, it's hype, and it's crunk, it's also soca; it's a mix of everything," said Lady Saw.
"Proceeds from the album will be going towards the Lady Saw Foundation, which speaks to abused women and children," said Kaylia Williams, Lady Saw's publicist.

ZIMBABWE police are warning their local dancehall artistes that if they engage in violence, they will feel the full force of the law.

The warning came about as a result of an onstage altercation between Zimbabwe dancehall acts Soul Jah Love and Seh Calaz on stage during at Dancehall Gig-Sting 2014 at the Harare City Sports Centre, recently.
According to The Herald, police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi appealed to musicians to be mature in their conduct.

"The Zimbabwe Republic Police would like to warn dancehall artistes against agitating for violence as shown by the two artistes, who even tried to fight while being interviewed by a local radio station," Nyathi was quoted as saying.
"Any artiste who tries to engage in any acts of violence will be severely dealt with, in terms of the country's laws," he continued.
Media reports claim that the onstage fracas ignited several skirmishes in the audience. No one died in the incident.

HWith their recent “Sura yako” hit ruling the airwaves, Kenyan group, Sauti Sol, seems to be doing quite well in the industry. Besides receiving top notch nominations and performing on international platforms, the group now hopes to win the “Best African Act at the upcoming 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA) for which they are nominated. Their Sura Yako video was a timely release as it has brought forth tons of attention and recognition and perhaps this could play in their favour especially now that all eyes are on them. But Sauti Sol arent’t the only group causing ripples.

UGANDA: SINGER DESIRE LUZINDA APOLOGIZES ABOUT NUDE PHOTO LEAKED

To all my fans in Uganda and all over the world, as you might be aware, there has been a lot of fanfare and discussion in the media and social media about my photos taken in private that were leaked to the public by a jilted lover.
The facts about this matter are that these were photos taken in privacy with someone I loved. In our private moments, we all have our “moments of madness”. The bottom line is that I trusted this person and never hoped that something done in private would find its way to the public domain irrespective of our differences.

I am aware that for many people who looked up to me as a role model, to the fans who adore my music , to the young generation that looks up to artistes like me as a symbol of the importance of grooming and growing talent, these photos must have been an upset.

I want to sincerely apologise to my mother, to my daughter, to my family, to my friends, my fans and any other people who have been offended by these images. Like I said, this was a breach of trust by someone I loved. I take full responsibility for having lost my mind to take such shameful pics. This person has not only abused that trust but now seeks to drag me down.

Those who have interacted closely with me know I am a decent person, a doting mother and an industrious woman. These images in no way should define who I am.

Let me also thank my numerous fans who have stood by me in this period—asking me to be firm amidst the tempest.

Just to let you know, the responsible authorities are doing everything possible to ensure I get justice. Once again, accept my sincere apologies.

Thank you,

Desire Luzinda

JAMAICA: KISSES FOR LEA-ANNA

KISSES for Breakfast was a top-10 hit in the United Kingdom three months ago for singer Melissa Steel and dancehall artiste Popcaan. In 2011, Lea-Anna Gallimore, who wrote the song, also enjoyed some success with her version.

In an interview last week with the Sunday Observer, Gallimore, whose parents are Jamaican, says she was not surprised that the Steel/Popcaan cover took off.

"Ever since I wrote the song in 2011 people loved it. I had great radio success with it back then and it's great to see that in 2014 it's still a hit. Kisses for Breakfast will always be the song that made people ask the question, 'who is Lea-Anna?', she explained.

Born in South London, Gallimore lived in Jamaica for several years. She recalled her initial meeting with Steel, whose father is Jamaican.

"I had met Melissa once before when I performed Kisses for Breakfast at Maida Vale, then some years later her record label made contact (with Gallimore) saying they were interested in using the song for her first single," she said. "It had already been an underground hit for me at radio so I was quite pleased that a mainstream artiste picked up this great song and made it the big hit it was and deserved to be."

Kisses for Breakfast is not Gallimore's first brush with a dancehall artiste.

"I have done collaborations with Ce'Cile and Timberlee as well as backing vocals when I was younger for artistes such as Queen Ifrica, Richie Spice and Stylo G," she said.

The 22-year-old Gallimore says she was born into music.

"My mum was a lover's rock singer and my dad a radio DJ. I always loved anything music-related. Growing up, I would enter talent shows and perform with my school choir. When my mum realised I could actually sing, she started introducing me to producers and people in the industry that she knew. From the age of 12, I was in the studio every day writing and recording, and that's kind of been my life ever since," she explained.

She has worked with a number of producers. Among them Wundah (the man behind Kisses for Breakfast); Michael Angelo (who has worked with soul singer Sam Smith, KZ (who has worked with Krishane Levy), Dwayne 'Supa Dups' Chin-Quee and Will Simms (known for his work with Sean Kingston).
